529 & ABLE News & Research
|
Here is what you need to know from stories, research, and data released this week:
- The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) is set to migrate to a new display for 529 plan, ABLE program, and LGIP program disclosure documents on the Electronic Municipal Market Access (“EMMA”) website starting December 9, 2024, the migration date. To enhance user accessibility, the MSRB has requested plan submission agents to (1) archive historical plan disclosure documents prior to the migration date; and (2) review and match unassigned plan supplements to their corresponding primary plan disclosure documents effective December 9, 2024. Important Note: After December 9, 2024, the EMMA system will not accept new plan document submissions until all unassigned supplements currently in the system have been matched to the primary plan documents.
- College Savings Foundation (CSF), “Majority of parents will ask for 529 gifts this holiday season, College Savings Foundation finds.” Editor’s Take: Based on a new annual survey by CSF, 65% of parents will request a 529 gift this holiday season. This aligns with an increase in familiarity with 529 gifting and 529 plans. Read the article to learn more about the survey and new product enhancements across the country. Also, you can find a map of the gifting programs here. Have the education financial planning conversation with your clients and family this holiday season.
- Ohio 529, CollegeAdvantage, “Cline success story: Our Ohio 529s grew and we didn’t have to do a thing.” Editor’s Take: In celebration of the 35th anniversary of the launch of Ohio Tuition Trust Authority (OTTA), the team released this success story and perspective on creating a successful education financial plan. I especially like how the family used the leftover 529 assets to pay for the first semester of graduate school. Looking forward to reading more of these success stories, and so should you. In the meantime, congrats to the OTTA team!
